- You no longer need to convert our files for use in your ebooks, you can now do a direct upload of the Word file created by our templates to Amazon KDP.
- Answering one of the most requested improvements, our picture and caption styles are now even easier to use.
- We've gone over all the templates, and in many cases we've improved the typography and replaced a problematic font in some cases. :-)
- And, we now include in every template an easy to update table of contents.

What to include?
You want anybody who reads your recipe or cookbook to come up with the exact results they expect. To accomplish that goal, make sure that the recipes you include are both precise and easy to understand.
Your recipe book template must have consistency in terms of the content. As such, your cookbook template should include the following:
- A list of supplies
- A list of ingredients
- Information about the preparation and cooking times
- Description of each recipe
- Specific, step-by-step instructions for cooking
- Special tips or hints

How do you make a homemade recipe book?
A recipe book template is a helpful guide for writing single recipes. If you can use the same cookbook layout and recipe template throughout all of the pages of your cookbook, this gives your book a uniform appearance.
Moreover, it also becomes easier to organize and give the assurance that all of the necessary details the readers need is in the book. Here are some steps to consider when making your own recipe book template:
- Title of the recipe
Placed this at the top of the template. The title should be both descriptive and tantalizing. Remember that the objective is to appeal to the reader so that they would immediately want to try making the dish. - A photo of the dish
Adding an image of the final dish will really help it, especially one that already sounds exquisite and delicious. If you intend to use the book for yourself, you can choose the image size.
But if you intend to put the book together to have it published, you should follow certain limitations and guidelines. For instance, the image size and quality should be correctly followed to make it qualify for printing and publication. - The list of ingredients
This is one of the most crucial parts of your template. For the experts, they know that the list of ingredients should be in precise quantities. In general, you would list the ingredients based on the first ones to use. Obviously, all ingredients should have their own measurements that are both accurate and consistent.
Since templates have limited space in terms of length, save space by applying some writing techniques. For instance, you can combine ingredients used in different parts of the recipe. - A list of supplies
Many templates include a separate section where you add the list of supplies. Place any equipment or utensils you might have to make a certain recipe here. Should there be any alternatives for the supplies the recipe needs, you can make mention of them in this section.
If your recipe requires specialty equipment, you can leave pointers about where to purchase such equipment. In the process of listing your supplies, if you need to specify a size for the supplies, you can add these details in this section too. - Preparation time
This is the amount of time required to cook a dish from the beginning to the end. Include the total time to prepare the ingredients before you start cooking. This section informs the reader how long it will take to prepare the dish. This makes it easier for readers to plan their meals. - Nutritional Information and Yield
There are recipes that will yield more than one serving. You should include information about this too. With this, the reader can make sure they won't make too little or too much of the dish to serve themselves or their guests.
When writing a book with a special focus on nutritional value, allotting a section on the nutrient information will be a useful and exceptional addition to your recipes. - Cooking Instructions
This part of every template helps the reader put all of the ingredients together in the right proportions and the right order. You should write the whole recipe with the cookbook reader in mind.
You can include information like what to do before mixing the dry or liquid ingredients in your recipe. As an example, if the reader needs to preheat their oven before use, this is where you would include such instructions.

How much does it cost to make a cookbook?
Now that you have finished your own cookbook using your recipe book template, it's time to learn how to price your cookbook. This is a crucial decision that can potentially lead to feeling overwhelmed or stressed.
Like any businessman knows, there is always a trade-off between setting a very high price which might result in the loss of sales and setting a very low price which might result in leaving money on the table.
In actuality, there really are no standard rules to successfully pricing cookbooks but there are, however, some considerations you should consider. While using a free recipe book template is the easy part, pricing your final product requires more work.

- Print Books
Typically, the price range for printed books can be between $15 to $30 for the more popular ones. As for restaurant or gourmet cookbooks, prices can range between $25 to $50. For avid Amazon shoppers, they can get discounts on these purchases.
Amazon might discount your book as well. Normally, the discount will be between 10% to 20% of the selling price. When Amazon discounts your book, you as the author will still get paid a royalty on the list price – not the discounted price. - Kindle eBooks
The price of Kindle eBooks normally ranges between $0.99 to $14.99 and in almost all cases, they aren't discounted. One unique aspect of Kindle royalties is that you are only allowed to receive 70% royalty if the book gets priced between $2.99 and $9.99. Otherwise, your royalty is 35%.
This means that if you sell your Kindle book at a price of $15.99 rather than $9.99, you only earn $5.60 for each book sold rather than $7.00 for each book when you price it at $9.99. Sadly, this means you have to sell a lot of books at a high price to make a profit.
